If you really have no clue what you should wear and time is a pressing matter (which it is most mornings juggling breakfast, kindergarten lunch and dressing 3 toddlers in our example) go for a monochrome look. Choose a color and wear it head to toe. This can be a cozy burgundy or a vibrant indigo blue but stay in your color range. For this look I went with a chocolate brown from head to toe and added a checkered blazer jacket in the same colorway.
This will always look chic and put together if it was intentionally or a last-minute decision and always accessorize.
We live in Germany which means the weather is generally on the cold side. The months of October until March are usually not the warmest – at least not in the mornings – so layering, or how my husband calls it the onion look. really is the key if you don´t want to compromise style for warmth.
How to layer your outfit
This look in particular is the perfect layering look no matter the weather will be. I was wearing an oversized woolcoat over the whole look cause it fit over the checkered jacket perfectly and it was a little chilly without.
Layering starts with the first piece you want to wear. This is usually a rather thin t-shirt or longsleeve. Then you can top it of with a cardigan, sweater or sweater vest like I did here. And to top it of you add any kind of jacket or coat. I have found this gorgeous waxed jacket over on H&M the other day. It has a leather collar and you cinch the waist which sets the right focous on your proportions and makes you look much slimmer. A nice side effect if you ask me.
I also always like to layer when we are at a Christmas market or at an festive ocassion outdoors. Always have my jacket open cause what for would I wear the Christmas sweater. A sleeveless shirt and a longsleeve under the sweater plus the coat or puffer jacket over it (open, but still) so you can „show“ your cute Christmas themed sweater.
The month of September and October have been a whirlwind outfitwise. I was wearing lots of Fall inspired outfits but we had two Summer vacations (one at the beginning of September and the other at the beginning of October) so my outfits are a little mixed but the last few weeks have been very fall-ish.
This has been the year of the years I have been waiting for so long – we were finally able to pull of the Addams Family family costume. Everyone has been a character from the strangest family on the planet. We even had little Victoria turn into Pubert, the baby which appeared in the second movie. She looked almost identical, it was the funniest thing. The two older girls dressed up as Wednesday and Pugsley and my husband and I of course as Gomez and Morticia. We even had Thing lend us a hand. 😉
Where I got everything for the Addams Family costumes
To be honest, family costumes can get quite expensive when you have to dress five people and while I like to spend money on clothes I am not the fondest of spending so much on things we probably wear once or twice in our life.
Most of the pieces are from Ali Express but I am sure you can get everything on amazon as well if you don´t have the time to wait about two weeks for your package. These are the pics I have taken as
Wednesdas Addams dress available on amazon / shop the wig here
The Wednesday costume we have is from a German discount store. I have ordered it online. In fact you would only need a black dress with the significant white collar and cuffs to achieve her look. The wig is from amazon.
Pugsley and Pubert Addams
I did not buy anything for these two cause can easily be recreated by you childs closet. I had a striped shirt and bike shorts (she refused to only wear bike shorts cause it was cold so we added black tights) and for the little pubert all gray and black things have been essentiel. The cute cardigan with spider print would have been so cool but to be honest it would have been a waste of money cause babies grow so quick and we head into Christmas season right after Halloween so it wouldn´t be worn anymore.
