How I clean and maintain my make-up brushes….

…..

Hi guys,
(post contains affiliate links / Werbung/Beitrag enthält Affiliate Links)
let´s talk beauty today. I love my make-up brushes and if you are a little like me you don´t switch them that often or never get a new one (I only have one blush brush I am using all the time and if it ever gets lost I probably get a physical meltdown :)). So with that said I am taking good care of  my brushes to guarantee them a long life.

I let them soak for about half an hour in warm water and also rinse with warm water after the cleansing process. I make sure all the surplus water is gone and lay them on a kitchen towel or and actual towel to dry. Take about a day.

First of all you need soap. Whether you are using a dish soap or a Dove soap, actual soap is really recommended for deep cleansing your brushes. I am using the real techniques brush cleansing gel and I love it. Somehow it manages to get all the dirt out very quick. Also it makes my brushes smell fresh and makes the hairs look nice and new again.

If you just want to freshen them up quickly you can use the essence brush cleansing spray. This is really just a compromise. But if you are on the run..

Another thing you want want to use it this pink make-up brush cleaner. The different structures on the pad help so much on cleaning your brushes. Be aware of how much dirt is coming out. This was the actual point to wash my bruhes more often cause you don´t want to apply all this old make-up again and again to your face.
I have listed the pad below along with some other options. Cheaper and pricier.

Overall it takes some time but the upsides are much more convincing cause your brushes are going to last longer and look fresh and new and also your skin might profit from clean brushes since you are not applying all the germs which are hidden inside the brush head.

Which products do you use for cleaning your brushes? And do you have a routine?

In the spotlight – my top highlighters…

….

Hi guys,

I am checking back with a long overdue beauty post today. Have planed this for so long (you can see it at the lilac since season is long over – whoopsie) but didn´t came around posting it earlier.

Using highlighters has been a total new topic for me. The first highlighter I got was at the beginning of 2016 so I might still be a total newby concerning this topic but I have got together quite the collection so I thought I round them up for you.

As far as my color preferences go I do prefer a more pearly and rose shade but also love some golden touches during summer.

Smashbox
My absolute favorite highlighter is this one. Maybe you can also see it cause I have used it many many times. It is the Smashbox Spotlight Highlighting Palette in Pearl. I love the lightest shade and use it almost daily. Just sets beautiful highlights. It is also perfect for mixing some shades to create your own unique highlighting shade.

MAC
I was searching for a great highlighter for my wedding day which stays all day and gives me THE glow. Of course I could use the Smashbox palette but I wanted to see what else is out there. I went to the MAC counter in our mall and talked to a very sweet girl who recommended the color Soft & Gentle – a gilded peach bronze. I really love it I think I am gonna use it for my wedding day but there are still some touch ups on procuts to make. Stays on great and you only need little.

L´Oreal
The La Vie en Glow Highlighter palette was in fact a coincidence find as I was searching for a BB cream for our vacation. I saw it first and was smitten by all the sparkling shades. The drug store lighting can be fatal for me. The color is very pigmented so be sure to not dive into it for applying cause this will be too much.
Other than that I like I all the nuances. Still not quite sure when to use the bluish one.
Got the 02 palette.

Catrice
I got this single highlighter a long time ago but never came around using it. So it sat in my beauty drawer until I was recently searching for a pencil sharpener for my lipliner and rediscovered it.
I do like it but not as much as my more golden and peach shimmering highlighter as it is pretty light, almost white. The color is 01 Light Infusion. It will be great to use on taned skin as you can really tell a difference then.
The other Catrice highlighter is from a collaboration with Caviar Gauche. It is old and I think only available on platforms like ebay but it was just too pretty not to picture.

L.O.V
This is a brand I have discovered just a few months back and I tend to go around it.
Not that I wouldn´t like certain products. I am quite sure they have great items but I really don´t need another cosmetics brand I am constantly looking for new things which I already have from another one. But this one time I got really weak and gave in. Have seen this highlighter on a what´s new display. They displayed two different palettes with color swatches and possibilities to wear them and also the stupid drug store lighting got me. Overall the colors are beautiful. I have choosen the warm palette this time since I thought it would be awesome for summer and it is. The colors are super soft and highly pigmented. Anyways if I don´t drop it this is going to last for years.

KIKO
I ordered this cause I thought it would be a bronzer but in my opinion it is a very shiny and dark highlighter. You could use it as bronzer if you like but also only for finishing touches cause it is way to shiny and sparkly for that.
I really like the products from the Kiko brand. I have discoered this brand a few year ago while staying in Verona, Italy and loved it ever since.

These are all powder highlighter cause I usually tend to stay away from wet and oily products which give my skin a more oily look than it does for itself.

My quick and easy pool side make-up look….

….

Hi guys,

(post contains affiliate links / Werbung/Beitrag enthält Affiliate Links)

and happy Wednesday from Italy. We where exploring the fashion capitol Milan yesterday so after a full day of stylishly exploring and walking around we needed to relax at the pool today.

So I thought why not share my quick and easy poolside make-up favorites.

Since I never dive (I would make an exception to swim with manatees or a whale shark) I always put on make-up while at the pool. It is less and more neutral than usual but I still don´t want to be naked.

As base I am using the Maybelline dream cushion make-up in the color sand. It is a darker shade so it is great if you already have a little tan.

To cover it up and keep it matt I am applying the L´Oréal Perfect Match translucent powder (also got the matching brush cause who doesn´t love a gorgeous mint shade).

Another summer favorite of mine is the Hoola Bronzer from Benefit. I always have one at home. It is just such a staple which gives your look some depth but is isn´t over the top. And you can apply as much as you want.

To finish my look I am using a waterproof mascara from Manhattan. The no end mascara has been a long time favorite of mine. Also have the normal formula at home. I am sticking to the mascara I love cause for me it really is a pain in the butt to find a good one.

Also who doesn´t love some color. I definitely do. I am very happy that L´Oréal came up with a sheer lip color line – the color riche shine lipstick. I got the color glazed pink and I really love it. Gives your lips a hint of color but isn´t overly pigmented. Just the right amount for the pool.

Also a good idea is too take some blotting papers with you to the pool. This way your make-up stays on and you don´t shine also you don´t have to reapply every couple hours.

And last but not least for a quick refresher I got the Biotherm L´Eau. A scented body mist. This smells so so good. My SIL used it one day we spent together and I immidiately loved it and bought it a few days later (totally forgot to picture it, sorry guys).

After talking this much about the pool we are heading to it right now. Thankfully it is right around the corner.

Thanks for stopping by. Take care. See you.

#travelthursday – the best items to store your make-up products for travel….

….

Hi guys,
(post contains affiliate links / Werbung/Beitrag enthält Affiliate Links)
in pure joy for our next vacation next week – less than 5 days away –  I am sharing my top products to store my beauty products while traveling.

Since this is always a big issue for me cause I don´t want anything to be broken or spilled I have found some great products over the years which help a lot.

I am by no means a travel expert but these are my tried and true favorites

sponge case Real Techniques
I discovered this by accident a few weeks ago and even I know it is not new invented I really think its pretty cool. If you are using another type of make-up sponge amazon offers a one size fits all in several colors. It is from Blenderelle and you can buy it here. Also really great idea.

brush case Jenny Patinkin
This case is like a safe for your brushes. It is pretty hard and you can incorporate it into your luggage wherever you want. It won´t open or break during your travel. There is lots of space so you can easily store about 6 to 10 make-up bruhes. Depends on which ones you are taking. The only downside is that a big fan brush for highlighting won´t fit. It opens and closes easily with snaps. There are also other colors available but I had to stay true to myself and take the pink one.

vanity case River Island
This is by far my favorite vanity case I have ever gotten. I love the color pairing. Has such Japanese vibes. I love that it has two compartments and I love the price. I can put all of my make-up products and face products into it and also my jewelry and there is still space. This piece is a real miracle and I would buy this over and over again. Totally recommend it.
My design is sold out but it is currently available in a beautiful gold print and also in white.

I also got a silver vanity case. It is from a local drug store but I am sure they are available in every bigger drug store. I am using this little case for all of my “wet” products like shower gel, shampoo, body lotions and heat sprays. In case something is leaking it stays in the case and won´t spill over all my clothes. I wouldn´t recommend it for flying unless you are taking it as a carry-on piece. The outer shell isn´t thick enough for surviving the throwing around and the weight of other luggage pieces.

The little black LED mirror is my travel mirror I recently got. I love the lighting as it is really bright (LED) and you can see every flaw in your face. Hotel bathroom lighting differs from place to place and let me tell most of them is awful. Whether it is too glare, almost blue and you look sick from every angle or it is too orangy or too dark, probably is romantic but bad for putting on make-up. I love that is stands by itself so I have to free hands.

Now I really gotta go and get some work done and also finish packing. View my other travel post here. It is all about the travel gadgets I love using.
