Nostalgic or Vintage Christmas decor is going to be one of the hottest decor trends of the upcoming season. I have seen it pop up everywhere and everyone raves about it, but what is it and how to decorate?!
Well if we think about nostalgia it is always something from the past and it is the same here. So if you have a grandma who still has her Christmas decor from 30 or 40 years ago down in her basement or in the attic you are heading into the right direction. Everyone else like me has to browse the internet to find some treasures on etsy or hope to make a gorgeous find at a fleamarket or an estate sale. The third option would be to go online and buy some new but old looking pieces. This will most likely be all of us.
There are millions of pieces to choose from so I am going to break down what´s really counting as nostalgic and what not. There haven´t been nude or beige or brown or minimalistic tree decor. A tree has to be so full with ornaments, tinsel and colorful lights that no branch is free. The more the merrier!!!
A great example for some nostalgic Christmas decor is the movie Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. My number one Christmas movie and the perfect source to gather some inspiration. The Christmas tree is full of different and colorful ornaments and popcorn garlands. They have a wooden pyramid in the living room and the reindeer mugs for the eggnog. You can also find needlepoint stockings and Santa mugs.
Decor Items I have found to be fitting for the theme
Letter Boxes
Santa figurines
Colorful bright ornaments (especially turquoise and pink)
Bottle brush trees
Tinsel trees
Christmas themed ceramic jars
Nutcracker
Christmas village set-ups
Vintage Christmas trees
Multicolored lights or bulbs
Santa mugs
Christmas train
Colorful beaded garlands (I remember my grandma had tons of these hanging on her tree) or popcorn garlands
My last baby turned 1 last week!! I am still in disbelief she is not a baby anymore but a toddler. Since she is this close to Halloween it definitely had to have a similar theme. I have found so many cute pink things so I went with lots of ghosts and the Spooky One birthday theme.
This might have been my favorite birthday theme yet, but I guess I say that after every party !!! The three main stores I have gotten my decorations has been amazon, TK Maxx and Temu. If you just write spooky one birthday party into the search bar there will pop up hundreds of very cute things. Since I have gotten so much blush pumpkins I went with a black, blush and white color theme with some pops of orange but a purple color theme would have super cute as well.

The Decor
The Coffee Table
I just love a theme on a table no matter if it is lunch, dinner or coffee. The table runner and the sequin table cloth matched the birthday theme perfectly. I had pumpkin and ghost decor that looked great toghether and the napkins tied everything together.
The Cake
Now let´s talk about this masterpiece. To be honest I thought this was his best work yet (but I think I am saying this everytime) with all the little details like the ghosts, pumpkins and the most adorable ghosts with eyelashes and glitter blush cheeks.
The flavor has been nougat – vanilla and it was do die for. So moist and delicious but not too sweet at all.
Now on to the cupcakes – stunning as they come. All the little details are so magnificent I still can´t believe we ate them all. The flavor of the buttercream was cassis and the the cake itself tasted like a piece of dark chocolate. Maybe flavors the grown-ups appreciate a little bit more than the kids.
The little witch hats and the bat / ghost sprinkles rounded up the whole Spooky One theme.
The First Birthday Specials
It was the first time I have completed the monthly photoshoot. I have 12 pictures including a newborn pic. It took me 3 kids and my panic that I will never get the chance to do this that kept me going and I was super happy I did. It´s just the cutest thing so see how she has changed a little every month.
I also had a little smash cake and the high chair decorations but she refused to touch the cake. She looked at us unwilling to believe that we would allow her to just dive into the cake with her bare hands.
We love to celebrate any ocassion big or small. And what better way to honor someone by putting in all the effort and decorate the hell out of the theme. A ballon arch in my opinion is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to transform a room and make it look like you put a lot of thought and work into it.
Balloon arches we already had
I have made so many balloon arches during the last years, so I might add that I am doing quite the good job assembling them. Always love a great theme to make the most of it. Kid´s birthday parties are of course the best cause I can go all out with colors and all things cute but a plain balloon arches can also look very good.

Add ons like garlands, number and figure balloons to complete the scene
If there is a little gap between garlands, on the floor or you just want to add some fun or dimension to your balloon arch you can never go wrong with a matching theme foil balloon.
Best ways to hang
I have tried different ways and the two things that are my go-to´s are clear fishing rod, thumbtacks and Tesa Power Strips.
The best string to put your balloons in line
I have tried different strings and find that the best are the ones I have linked below. They are not as tight and the wholes are not sharp so your balloons won´t pop before you hang up the garland.
I prefer the right one here with the single whole. The plastic is much smoohter and doesn´t hurt your balloons. Also it is tighter together. You can get it here.
The one thing you need to come out sane
If you plan on having balloon garlands and arches on more than one occasion I would definitely remmomend an electric balloon pump. You can never blow up this many balloons. Mine is was under twenty and I have had it for years and it still works great. You can also blow up the big foil balloons with the balloom pump. You just need a longer noozle (is included) and a little patience as it takes much longer than a regular balloon.
How many balloons will you need for a moderately large balloon arch
I´d go for 30 to 40 to have a moderate size which meassures about two meters.
Where to get your balloons
You can either buy themed sets or get all of your requested colors equally. I would definitely recommend on looking around what color pairings are available cause they are much cheaper and less balloons when you can get a set. Also there will be everything included you´ll need. Best shops to get all things themed are amazon, SheIn and Temu.

This is always a fun task for me. I love putting together gifts for others and in my opinion I had a pretty good and easy implementable idea for this years Kindergarten teacher gift.
First of all I like to admit that I love to gift things you can use up and throw away the packaging. I know that stuff can pile up pretty fast but if you get lots of consumable things you hit the jackpot.
Kindergarten Teacher Gift Idea
I went with water tumbler this year. Mine are from NKD and pretty good for the very affordable price of 10 Euro each. Then I filled it with wood wool so the little things wouldn´t slide to the bottom. I have bought hand lotion, lip balm, a protein bar and a pen and paper set. These are all things you can use up and don´t have sitting in your home. Also I think this is a great range of products for a Kindergarten teacher no matter the age or interests.
Other gift ideas:
– a small basket with a DIY kit like a taco kit or a hot chocolate kit
– if it is allowed a gift card or restaurant voucher (you can never go wrong with this)
– category kit like a notebook, post-its, pens, paper clips or a snack kit with cooler bag, a tumbler and a snack box
Do you have other gift ideas you love ? Let me know, I would love to share it on here too.
