I can already see the weekend ahead of me. Hopefully we are going straight to it without any obstacles. Today is going to be the hottest day so far with desert like temperatures. We´ll see how I mangage to get through it.
A few weeks ago I started to rearrange and redecorate our living room. We ordered a bigger table which will be made out of oak wood and therefore all of my silver pieces won´t match the color nor the style anymore so I decided to refresh our living room with decoration pieces I have stored away after moving into the house but also with a bunch of new things. The floating shelves we have in our living room are some of my favorite decor elements. I wanted to have built in shelves but there wasn´t a suitable wall for that in this room so I went with this option.
Styling shelves to make them look outstanding can be a lot of fun but also super tricky. It is all about the mixture of items and how to place pieces. I honestly replaced some of the items a few times and paired them with other deorative pieces until I was a 100 % satisfied.
My shelves are from Ikea but you can get them at any furniture store and even our hardware store carries pretty options. I went for all white cause in my opinion these are the easiest to style and also to redecorate with any color you would want to use.
5 tipps on how to style floating shelves:
#1 change up the heights // Working with pieces of different height adds dimension to a shelf. I used several heights from small pieces like the leather chest to high pieces like the candle holder, chandelier or plants. Adding different heights sets the tone for you shelf styling and makes it outstanding.
#2 play with texture // Adding different textrures and materials on a shelf creates texture and interst. A few of the materials I added are glass, wood, wicker, brass, ceramic,
#3 add personal pieces // I added a few personal items like a wedding picture (and a few other personal picutres) and a lamp that belonged to my deceased aunt. A souvenir from a place you visited would also be a pretty decoration piece.
#4 mix colors // You can stick with a color theme like I did (I used light and dark brown hues combined with orange and white) but in the end you should stay true to your style so if it will be as colorful as possible that´s the right way.
#5 have fun // This one is self-explanatory cause redecorating your house should be a fun thing for sure.
Now it is your turn. Mix and match as you like. Do you love decorationg too ?
As always thanks for stopping by. Take care. See you.
