Our girl´s room was such a heartfelt project. I loved every second I spent planning, working and decorating in there always thinking how my two girls will grow up together in their beautiful shared room.
All of the decor pieces I put into the shelf are picked with a meaning behind. Most of them are from etsy. My number one online place for personalized and special pieces you won´t get at any other place.
Sentimental / Memorable Pieces
I am sentimental in every way. I look at certain pieces and pictures or clothes from my kids and get tears in my eyes immediately by remembering the special moments. They grow up so fast and I try to keep as much as possible cause time is truly a thief. I have kept almost all of the girls important and meaningful pieces from their birth like their hospital bands and first name tags.
Both of my girls have one of the shelves reserved for their things like personalized pieces and special gifts. Also pictures of them from their first weeks of life. I just can´t believe how little they once were.
Decorative Pieces to play with
These are the ones I incorporated throughout the whole shelf which are meant to play with but also have a decorative character like the wooden rainbow, the tea set or the Claris books. The tea set is Emilia´s favorite piece in her room. She loves to play picnic with her stuffed animals and her dad and this one comes in handy. It is ceramic but I told her to handle it carefully and so far she does. The Claris books are the cutest in my opinion, they work great as background for the shelves. The look-and-find books are the best to learn new words and things from the chic and fashionable world Claris lives in.
Storage
Hidden or decorative storage is a huge space saver cause it serves as two pieces in one. Baskets work always in your favor. First of all you can´t spot what it´s in there and second of all you can choose styles plus it won´t look less cluttered with baskets in a shelf. If your children are still little it is much easier for them to tidy up by themselves.
I have been dying to finally share this room with you. I envisioned how it could look long before I knew that we were going to have a second girl. It turned out even better than I thought and it is definitely my favorite room of the house. We are spending our mornings and evenings in the girl´s room and it is just amazing at how much love you can put into a single room.
The Girl´s Shared Room
Color Theme
When thinking about the color theme for a girls room pink immediately comes to my mind. I wanted to dial it down a bit and went with a light blush shade. It is super subtle and on the cooler side. The main colors of the wallpaper are rose, blush and olive green. A few wooden and gold accents round up the whole room.
The Wallpaper
The lead piece of the shared girl´s room is the peonies wallpaper. I have looked for a flower wallpaper everywhere and found the one of my dreams on Wayfair. It has been quite expensive but it will probably stay until they move out plus it ties the room toghether perfectly and even my husband loves it. He usually doesn´t care about decor and „stuff“ like that. From here on I went with a soft blush wall color for all of the walls. You can have a look at the before of the nursery here.
After that all I had to do was to find matching pieces. The curtains have been the easiest pieces cause the lenght was just right and the color matches perfectly with the leaves in the wallpaper. These are also blackout curtains I use during the day. We have shutters for the night.
Furniture
All of the furniture we have in the girls room is from Ikea. Literally everything. I personally love Ikea and think the furniture is pretty good and affordable. Also we probably change it up every few years since the girls are still growing.
The cribs we have are the same cause I wanted to have a symmetrical look on the wallpaper wall. In the middle of the two cribs is a small shelf where I put some cute nursery decor as well as keepsake pieces, gifts and photos from the girls.
To store all the clothing and all the other things we need for the girls we have two closets. One for the clothes and one for all the other things. In the middle of these two there is the changing station. It is the Hemnes changing station and the same we used with Emilia. I have added some new things like the wooden storage options and paper boxes as well as a mobile. Helena loves the mobile on the changing station and laughs at it all the time. It is the cutest thing.
This will always be my favorite room watching my girls grow up and play and hopefully have the best relationship toghether.
FYI: I prepared this blog post before our baby girl arrived so there would still be fresh content on the blog while I am taking a break from blogging. That’s why you’ll still see me pregnant or referencing my pregnancy in some upcoming blog posts!
I decided to shoot the nursery before baby girl get´s here simply because I am sure I will have plenty of pictures with her later on and it is just easier to take photos without a newborn (at least that is what I think).
The theme of the nursery is jungle book or lots of animals. It came together easily as the room was already nicely painted when we moved in so we decided to leave it that way and figure out what to do with the room as we needed it (side note – we both absolutely loathe painting so this was a nice surprise).
First thing I ever got for this room were the banana leaf curtains from H&M and then I went from there with all white furniture, a golden carpet matching the tipi and the floor and lots of stuffed animals you can also find in the prints on the wall.
One of the highlights definitely is the customized name plate above her bed. I have found it at an Etsy shop and it came very quick made of great quality. Going to link the shop here.
Since I started working on the room before we even knew what gender our baby had this makes the perfect gender neutral nursery.
Do you prefer more or less color for home decor in general ? Would you go with a green wall?
today´s post might not be for eveyone but for all my mama´s to-be out there this could be quite useful. Ever since I found out I was pregnant I started to do my research on baby products in online shops, on other mama bloggers sites and everywhere in between. All of our friends are still childless so I couldn´t ask any of them but I think I did quite well. How useful and probably more important how often the items will be used when the baby is here is still out in the open.
Car Seat Maxi Cosi Rock Group 0 // I had a look at many different car seat brands but ended up liking the Maxi Cosi the most. They seems to be really safe and also affordable which makes them attractive for many people I think. Ours is the Rock in Group 0 which is the newborn phase and up. We have the sparkling grey and I personally love that it glitters in the sun. Of course you can also get a plain color.
Car seat knitted sunroof // I wanted another color for the Maxi Cosi but couldn´t find one I really liked so I got this cute little knit cover for it which is so pretty and adds a whimsical touch.
Car seat cover // I think they are super practical if you are carrying the baby in the car seat with you to doctors appointments so the light will she shut out and it is also a great way to keep germs off.
Baby Björn Rocker // Heard and seen that this is the holy grail rocking chair for happy babies. Every mom I am following on Instagram has pointed out that this is the best rocker they could possibly find. It is a little more expensive than other but you can turn it inside out and use it as a chair when your baby has grown into the toddler stage.
Baby Björn Rocker toy // Got this recommended as I put my rocker in the cart. I ended up buying it too because I think it will make a fun little additon to the rocker for the baby to play but to be honest it is a little bit pricier than I would want it to be.
Mammacita burp clothes // Not much to add to these. I will need them anyway so why not get some with adorable lamas.
Sleepyhead // Since the Dock-A-Tot isn´t available in Germany I have found a similar one from the UK. The brand is called sleepyhead and I would say it is the same product. At least it looks the same and the prints are also very similar. I plan on using this for the sofa and also as an insert for the crib beside our bed.
SkipHop changing pad // Got this changing pad to carry in my tote or the stroller with me. I have another one in my diaper bag, also from SkipHop. I think their pieces are super cute and affordable and so far I think the quality is really great.
Nightlight// Great to light up the baby´s room and also perfect for breastfeeding in the middle of the night. It has a touch sensor and 3 different levels of light. I also plan on packing this in my hospital bag.
WMF bottle warmer // There are bottle warmer of any brand out there but they also only fit the brands bottles so I had been on the hunt for one that warms any bottle I would want to heat up and also thaws and warms breastmilk from the freezer bags.
Diaper pail // This one is supposed to seal up each and every diaper individually so it won´t smell. We´ll find out. You can get different skins for your diaper pail with a ton of patterns.
Drip tray for baby bottles and pacis // I thought this was super cute to put the bottles and pacis on after sterilizing them to dry.
Portable white noise mashine // Got this because of many recommendations. It is easy to use and makes a bunch of different noises.
Baby knit blanket // Wanted to match a cute baby blanket with our stroller and this one fits the bill in color and style and softness.
Velcro Swaddles // Hopefully these will support our baby to sleep good during nap times and nights.
breastfeading pillow // It was really hard for me to find a breastfeeding pillow that wasn´t super cheesy or ugly for me. Why do all of the prints and colors have to be so over the top ugly in Germany. I really don´t get it.
car mirror // I never thought of this but it makes total sense to have one of these, also for safety reasons. It takes less time looking in the mirror what the baby is doing than turning your head while driving.
flexible toy ball // I know that the baby will be to small to grab anything in the beginning but I ended up getting it cause I figured at some point we need grabing toys as well.
There are millions of articles out there to shop for and in the end you have to decide for yourself what you really need and want but I think a little guide on what other people recommend and get might make it a little easier.
All of the prodcuts are from amazon and most come with prime shipping so if you decide on anything last minute I am sure you will get it in time.
