Happy Friday you guys,

(post contains affiliate links/Werbung/Markennennung/ Beitrag enthält Affiliate Links-not sponsored)

it is a holiday over here in Germany and boy it has been the most boring day ever. In normal times I would love to have a holiday but since we are staying home due to the Coronavirus every day is the same and today had been especially bad. It is rainy and cold outside and so we couldn´t do anything outside although I got a lot of shots done I still feel blah. But I guess some days are rather fun than others.

So let´s talk about this whole #socialdistancing thing. We are home all the time and there are so many things we can get accomplished, we never had any time before and that is great. Also being around the people you love all the time is a huge blessing (at least for us over here) but being together all the time can be hard on some couples too so you have to find some time for yourself.

Everyone needs some downtime alone even if it is just a short shower but having some time to yourself helps to keep your mood in a good place.

It really depends on what your preferences are. Having a glass of wine while reading your favorite magazine marks an hour well used. Or if you like organizing and it makes you feel good go and clean out a closet/drawer etc. I personally enjoy that a lot and I feel much more accomplished and happier after.

Times are hard at the moment with all the restrictians and lockdowns but if you want to stay happy while you have to stay at home its the little things that make your day.

How to handle Gestational Diabetes….

pregnancy, gestational diabetes, advice

….

FYI: I prepared this blog post before our baby girl arrived so there would still be fresh content on the blog while I am taking a break from blogging. That’s why you’ll still see me pregnant or referencing my pregnancy in some upcoming blog posts!

Hi you guys,

(post contains affiliate links/Werbung/Markennennung/Beitrag enthält Affi

since you might know from reading my bump dates that I had been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes right away at the beginning of my pregnancy I thought I wanted to share my journey/experience so far to help others.

But first of all I am no docotor and in no means do I have any medical knowledgement. I am just sharing my journey and thoughts with you guys but before you do anything always talk to your doctor first.

I personally haven´t known before how serious this can be for mother and child after giving birth but also how it wasn´t to hard to get control of it.

I was diagnosed with insulin resistence due to bloodworks before I got pregnant so I had to go in for the glucose test before I was even pregnant. An insulin resistence means that your body isn´t processing your sugar/carb/starch in-take in the way it should be which means your blood sugar levels rise and then start sinking. Mine fell after and then went up and then straight down. Also my sober blood sugar is a little over 90 every morning which isn´t to bad as a ´normal´person but pregnant it isn´t ideal for the environment of the embryo so I had to start injecting insulin right away after I found out I was pregnant.

This has been a huge bummer for me and really made me feel down a lot of times – not because I wasn´t able to eat what I like during my pregnancy cause I basically had to cut out most of the carbs, sugar and starch containing produts but I had to start prick myself 7 times a day to meassure my blood sugar and also inject insulin several times.

And as much as I was looking out at the first three months where your hormones are going crazy and through the roof this can also happen to your blood sugar levels. So I was devastated a lot of times and panicked often cause I literally thought I would kill my embryo by eating the wrong things and having super high results. Thankfully this got better after a few months and my insulin dose stayed consistent for longer periods so I didn´t have to adjust it constantly.

I have to take two different types of insulin. A short-term insulin right before I eat breakfast because food is processed the slowest in the mornings. So as I have to eat a little more for breakfast as I am always super hungry in the mornings I have to take this otherwise I can´t have enough food to be full. The other insulin I am taking is long-term. So I take a shot at 12 am to keep my sober level in the evenings as low as possible and a shot at 10 pm for my morning blood sugar level to keep it under 90.

The average blood sugar levels should be as the following. Under 90 in the mornings and before eating a meal and under 140 one hour after a meal and under 120 two hours after eating a meal.

If Gestational Diabetes is detected too late or stays untreated during pregnancy it can really affect your baby in a bad way in terms of their own insulin production after being born. They can also grow really heavy cause of all of the sugar they get which can be very difficult and dangerous for delivery. But this can be avoided by taking the glucose test at your doctor´s office.

I don´t want to scare anyone with this post, I am just writting down my own journey here. Also I am no doctor so if you need or want more information on this topic talk to your own OBGYN.

But what is Gestational Diabetes ?

The further you get into your pregnancy the more energy you will need so your body sets more glucose free. To lower the sugar in your system your pancreas has to set way more insulin free. In some pregnancies the pancreas can´t perform this so you are soon having a lack of insulin and you need to support from the outside or you will have bad results after every meal.

Maybe this has cleared some things up for you and if you have any questions feel free to mail me?

This has been my last blog post about any pregnancy related topic or pregnancy style. I am really sad to close this chapter of my life for now but I am over the moon excited to open the next and have our little baby girl home with us.

My Third Trimester…

….

FYI: I prepared this blog post before our baby girl arrived so there would still be fresh content on the blog while I am taking a break from blogging. That’s why you’ll still see me pregnant or referencing my pregnancy in some upcoming blog posts!

I can´t believe I am sitting here writting my third trimester post which means my pregnancy is over and we have our sweet baby girl home with us. I have to admit the last trimester and especially the last 6 weeks felt endless. I was counting down the days but somehow they didn´t get less and I was stuck on waiting until she wanted to arrive in this world.

My feelings

I have felt a lot of ups and downs followed by crying during my third trimester. With the madness of the Coronavirus approaching I was terrified that I had to give birth alone cause husbands would be banned from the delivery room. Luckily it did not came this far although he had to leave after I was brought to my room and could only visit for one hour a day but I only had two days in the hospital so it was okay with me, sad but okay.

My aversions

Haven´t had any aversions in my third trimester.

My cravings

Apples. Every day I am craving apples. I haven´t eaten apples in forever and in fact never liked them. I am also a little allergic to apples (my throat scratches and my lips start to swell) but that had gone as well. I am really curious if it comes back now that the baby is here.

My pregnancy symptoms

I haven´t gotten much more pregnancy sypmtoms other than my gestational diabetes, heart burn and severe rib pain. The bump has gotten so big I don´t find a lot to wear anymore which makes me really sad a lot of days I have to get dressed. Even my maternity pieces are getting pretty tight around the bump. Also sleeping has been really dreaded over here. I have so much pain going on in my hips after lying to long on one side. This is really bad cause I have all the comfortable blankets and pillows but can´t find a comfortable pose.

What I am looking forward now

Staying home and finding a schedule that works for us for our new everyday life. Days fly by with a newborn. Also I can´t wait till people are allowed to visit again cause of course I want to share our little cutie with our relatives and friends.

I am going to share my birth story within the next weeks but I still have some prepared posts I wanted to share.

Happy Tuesday friends,

(post contains affiliate links/Werbung/Markennennung/Beitrag enthält Affiliate Links-not sponsored)

hopefully you had a good start into the new week. It is day 11 in home quarantine over here and we are still in a good mood. There are lots of things you can do to distract yourself for most of the day, at least for us. Maybe it is easy to say for me cause we don´t have any kids in the house yet (waiting on baby girl to make here appearance but she for sure is taking her sweet time) but it is still a ton of time to pass without having the opportunity to go anywhere than on a walk.

I wanted to share some activities which we included in our daily schedule so time will pass a little quicker or at all.

What to do at home…

1 // Read – Now is finally the time to dust of all the books in your shelves and finally start reading them or get some off from amazon. I always have a bunch on my wishlist I plan on purchasing from other reviews.

2 // Watch Netflix – The time probably won´t come again were it is acceptable to binge watch for days. There are tons of great shows on Netflix. I have done two round-ups you can read for inspo here and here.

3 // Make a puzzle – We got a 1000 piece puzzle and believe me this task is going to occupy a lot of your time and it is super calming. It has been years since I have done a puzzle and I have to admit I love it.

4 // Play board games – A great way to pass time and interact with your partner but I would only recommend if you aren´t highly competitive cause you at least have to stay inside for another two weeks.

5 // Organize your house – Not everyone´s favorite but definitley one over here. Amazon still ships so you can get all the container or inserts you would need to organize certain rooms/categories in your home like the pantry, your jewelry or beauty corner.

6 // Do online workout classes – Many gyms or/and even dance studios offer online workout classes or dancing lessons. A fun alternative to sporting outdoors and also spend productive time with your significant other.

7 // Take daily walks – If you are still allowed to do so this is a task which should be done everyday. Getting in fresh air, movements and sunshine is super healthy for your body and mind which is really important at the moment.

8 // Try out new recipes- Definitely another reason for a daily number 7 cause with all that time on hand I have never tried out more different recipes than these days. I already made these delicious flourless peanut butter cookies from The Lemon Blonde and a Dutch Baby (an oven baked pancake) twice.

9 // Do your taxes – If you should get super bored despite all of the activities you can still do your taxes for last year.

I hope you are all staying healthy and as much home as possible so far. It is a difficult and strange time but it will also pass like so many others did before and we hopefully come out smarter and more resilient than before.
