Happy Monday you guys,

(post contains affiliate links/Werbung/Markennennung/Beitrag enthält Affiliate Links-not sponsored)

today is the first real day after all the Christmas festivities and we are still in a lazy rut although I cleaned up today but that was it. We hung around in our PJ´s all day and had leftovers from all the food we ate in the last couple of days. I am sure anybody else who hadn´t go back to work today did the same.

Anyways let´s talk about the real news over here – we will be having another little baby next year in June!!!!! I can´t wait for it to be here and for Emilia becoming a big sister. We also already found out the gender but I am going to share that in a separate post.

It has been a whirlwind around here. Being pregnant while chasing after a toddler is extremely hard but I am so glad she still naps so I did as well. We tried to tell her what is going on and so far she knows that there is a baby in my belly and she has to be very gentle but other than that I am not sure if she totally grasps what is happening here. We´ll see but the last couple of weeks she has turned into the best doll mom we could ask for so I am going to stay positive.

I am now 17 weeks along and my first trimester symptoms are finally fading. I am so happy that the nausea and the exhaustion is lifting. I just can´t believe that I almost forgot everything from my first pregnancy. How great it is to watch your baby on the ultrasound and hearing the heart beat plus the anxiety and excitement before every appointment.

Since this is my second pregnancy and also everyone told me I am not surprised that my bump is already quite noticeable. I had to change into my maternity pants last week, so that´s that.

Going to share more on an official bump date post so that´s it for the day. See you soon.

….

Hello and happy Monday to my lovely readers,

I am finally sharing my birth story on my blog today. I was not sure if I wanted to since it is such a private thing but to be honest nothing bad happens and I also love reading other women´s birth stories so here we go plus I also don´t want to forget about it.

The first signs of labor appeared on the evening at the 26th of March. At about 08:30 pm I started to notice cramping. I wasn´t sure if it they were Braxton Hicks contractions as I had those earlier already so I went upstairs and took a shower cause everything else but real contractions fade with the heat of the water.

After getting out of the shower I was pretty positive that this was actual labor but I still wanted to wait some time before I told my husband cause I wanted to be sure. So I shaved my legs and got my hair done to be hospital ready and also got some comfortable clothes I could wear to the hospital. It was about 11 pm as my husband went upstairs so I told him cause at this point I was pretty sure as the pain was rising with the hour.

My midwife suggested to stay at home as long as possible which meant as long as the pain was somehow toleratable cause it is easier to distract yourself. So I made myself some yoghurt and watched a few episodes of the Big Bang Theory, I also finished packing my hospital bag. Meanwhile my husband went to sleep to get in some hours before we would go to the hospital.

I got a contraction tracker on my phone and after tracking them for some hours I woke up my husband at around 2 in the night cause I wasn´t feeling comfortable anymore and wanted to get to the hospital to have someone look at my baby cause I was afraid she was going to be in distress.

We checked in to labor and delivery at about 2:30 am and I got hooked up on the monitors, they made and ultrasound and layed me an IV. I was dilated about 2 cm at this time so I was preparing myself for a long labor.

At some point (about 5 am) I was in so much pain I wanted to have some pain medication but I was already dilated to 9 cm so it would not even help until the baby was born. So I had to have an unmedicated birth.

To be honest the pain was managable but the pressure pulling down was on a whole other level. To be honest it was hell and the contractions came so close I didn´t even have much time to recover. I am still wondering how I did not break my husbands hand. For my next child I am definitely getting an epidural rather sooner than later.

My water broke around 7 am and after an hour of pushing our baby girl was born at 8:19 am on the 27th of March after a total of about 12 hours of labor. She made on short cry and fell aspleep right after. My husband cut the umbilical cord and the midwife laid her right onto my chest for skin on skin were she first things first peed.

I had a second degree tear so I had to be sewn up while she was taken away to be cleaned and meassured.

The moment she came into our life was one of the most incredible moments of my life but somehow unbelievable. I mean I knew that there was a baby growing inside of me but to actually see her after all the months I have waited was so surreal there are still some times I look at her now I can not believe she was actually growing inside of me.

Experiencing labor was hard. It was a pain on another level I have not expected but it was so very worth it. And another amazing thing I noticed was that the pain immediately stopped after she was here. That is so fascinating.

Now we are enjoying every little moment with our sweet baby girl.

How to handle Gestational Diabetes….

pregnancy, gestational diabetes, advice

….

FYI: I prepared this blog post before our baby girl arrived so there would still be fresh content on the blog while I am taking a break from blogging. That’s why you’ll still see me pregnant or referencing my pregnancy in some upcoming blog posts!

Hi you guys,

(post contains affiliate links/Werbung/Markennennung/Beitrag enthält Affi

since you might know from reading my bump dates that I had been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes right away at the beginning of my pregnancy I thought I wanted to share my journey/experience so far to help others.

But first of all I am no docotor and in no means do I have any medical knowledgement. I am just sharing my journey and thoughts with you guys but before you do anything always talk to your doctor first.

I personally haven´t known before how serious this can be for mother and child after giving birth but also how it wasn´t to hard to get control of it.

I was diagnosed with insulin resistence due to bloodworks before I got pregnant so I had to go in for the glucose test before I was even pregnant. An insulin resistence means that your body isn´t processing your sugar/carb/starch in-take in the way it should be which means your blood sugar levels rise and then start sinking. Mine fell after and then went up and then straight down. Also my sober blood sugar is a little over 90 every morning which isn´t to bad as a ´normal´person but pregnant it isn´t ideal for the environment of the embryo so I had to start injecting insulin right away after I found out I was pregnant.

This has been a huge bummer for me and really made me feel down a lot of times – not because I wasn´t able to eat what I like during my pregnancy cause I basically had to cut out most of the carbs, sugar and starch containing produts but I had to start prick myself 7 times a day to meassure my blood sugar and also inject insulin several times.

And as much as I was looking out at the first three months where your hormones are going crazy and through the roof this can also happen to your blood sugar levels. So I was devastated a lot of times and panicked often cause I literally thought I would kill my embryo by eating the wrong things and having super high results. Thankfully this got better after a few months and my insulin dose stayed consistent for longer periods so I didn´t have to adjust it constantly.

I have to take two different types of insulin. A short-term insulin right before I eat breakfast because food is processed the slowest in the mornings. So as I have to eat a little more for breakfast as I am always super hungry in the mornings I have to take this otherwise I can´t have enough food to be full. The other insulin I am taking is long-term. So I take a shot at 12 am to keep my sober level in the evenings as low as possible and a shot at 10 pm for my morning blood sugar level to keep it under 90.

The average blood sugar levels should be as the following. Under 90 in the mornings and before eating a meal and under 140 one hour after a meal and under 120 two hours after eating a meal.

If Gestational Diabetes is detected too late or stays untreated during pregnancy it can really affect your baby in a bad way in terms of their own insulin production after being born. They can also grow really heavy cause of all of the sugar they get which can be very difficult and dangerous for delivery. But this can be avoided by taking the glucose test at your doctor´s office.

I don´t want to scare anyone with this post, I am just writting down my own journey here. Also I am no doctor so if you need or want more information on this topic talk to your own OBGYN.

But what is Gestational Diabetes ?

The further you get into your pregnancy the more energy you will need so your body sets more glucose free. To lower the sugar in your system your pancreas has to set way more insulin free. In some pregnancies the pancreas can´t perform this so you are soon having a lack of insulin and you need to support from the outside or you will have bad results after every meal.

Maybe this has cleared some things up for you and if you have any questions feel free to mail me?

This has been my last blog post about any pregnancy related topic or pregnancy style. I am really sad to close this chapter of my life for now but I am over the moon excited to open the next and have our little baby girl home with us.

Good morning ladies,

(post contains affiliate links/Werbung/Markennennung/Beitrag enthält Affiliate Links-not sponsored)

since being pregnant I have been thinking a ton about what to eat that my baby also gets the right ingredients and stays healthy in there cause everything I take to myself the baby also does. The same goes for beauty and skincare products. The skin is absorbing over 50 % of the ingredients you put onto it so your products better be pregnancy safe and non-toxic cause it gets in your cycle no matter what and it will maybe affect your baby.

I have been searching the web up and down and reading / comparing articles and ingredient descriptions as intense you could think I want to become a professional chemist. But now I know what I am safe to use and what not. Which substances are okay, great and forbidden.

Disclosure: I am in no way a doctor or have any medical knowledge. I did my own research for this blog post and read a lot on the internet, I also asked my practitioner if it was fine to take these products and she ended up giving me green light but I would suggest to ALWAYS talk to your doctor first. You can make a preselection by yourself but I would definitely get the products approved before using them on a daily base.

Cleanser

Biotherm Total Renew Balm // The BEST cleansing balm I have ever had. It totally melts off the make-up of your face. I haven´t found anything that cleaned better than this so far.

Nuxe Micellar Foam Cleanser // Awesome smelling face foam (you can totally smell the roses) that actually doesn´t dry out your skin while you are cleaning it.

Toner

Neutrogena Skin Detox Micellair Water // I have had the Hydro Boost toner before but they discontinued it so I went with this one. It fullfills the same purpose.

Dr. Hauschka Clarifying Toner // I really love this product and have been using it for years, even before I was on the hunt for clean products. This product has absolutely made my skin better and I use it after cleaning my face and before my face cream in the mornings and at night.

Eye Cream

Neutrogena Hydro Boost (not picutred here) // Needed to switch eye creams cause the last I have used included Retinol which is an absolute no-go when you are pregnant.

Serum

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid // I have heard a lot about this company before I have even ordered anything. They are super affordable and almost to good to be true. I have a bunch of their serums but the only one I can use for now is the Hyaluronic Acid cause it is a product of your own body.

Kiehl´s Midnight Recovery Concentrate // I ordered this even before I was pregnant and thankfully I am still able to use it as all the ingredients are considered to be pregnancy friendly. The serum contains a bunch of essential oils which makes the smell so so good. It also leaves your skin super soft. I use the serums two times a week and so far they work great.

Moisturizer

Rituals The Ritual of Namasté 24h Hydrating Gel Cream

Rituals The Ritual of Namasté Hydrating Overnight Creme // Rituals has been a go-to around her for many year and I always loved their products. They are a little pricey but they hold up so well and are made of awesome quality so I don´t mind about that. It was just recently that I discovered their skincare series and I loved it right away. The smell of roses is awesome and the face cream goes on really smooth and doesn´t feel greasy at all. I have the duo for day and night. All of their products are natural and Rituals even offers a mom and a baby line if you are interested.

Face Oil

Dr. Hauschka Clarifying Day Oil // I have read about this on Helena´s blog (The Brooklyn Blonde) before, she adds one drop of face oil to her foundation everyday. I have tried it and loved it. My foundation goes on very smooth now and it doesn´t look cakey at all throughout the day. Definitely worth a shot.

Face Mask

Kiehl´s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque // The best smelling face mask I have ever had, fruity but also relaxing in a good way. It includes little particles of cranberry seeds that have an exfoliating effect to your skin. The little can doesn´t include a lot but it is definitely worth a try as it is that good.

Dr. Hauschka Clarifying Clay Mask // Comes as a powder and you have to mix it all by yourself but this makes it even easier cause you can create the consistency and the amount you want to. All of Dr. Hauschkas´s products are natural and therefore perfect for pregnancy.

Pixi FortifEYE Firming Eye Patches // Love to use eye patches cause they instantly make you look fresher after using them. I am planning on storing them in the fridge and using them after every long night I have with our sweet baby girl.

These are all the products I have used and loved so far since I am pregnant. I haven´t tried out anything new after I found a product that I was able to use.
