and with today´s post I am kicking off Valentine´s Day post season. This is my first post of the year regarding one of my favorite holidays.
I have posted tons of Valentine´s Day content over the years but never thought of making cute pink waffles. Now that we had so much time on hand and a waffle iron I made several different things in the waffle iron amongst waffles but for today´s post pink waffles it is and I am clearly not mad about it.
Being spoiled on Valentine´s Day with breakfast in bed or a sweet treat in the afternoon is definitely a very nice gesture but you can easily make them by yourself. All you need is a basic waffle recipe and red food coloring. The food color I am always using and is from Wilton and it creates the brightest shades.
This is the waffle recipe I have used. We made quite a lot of waffles since the first time for our breakfast board. They are the easiest of all sweet breakfast treats.
My pj´s are from Missguided and I got them from Asos. I could not link them via Shopstyle but I added some very similar and a ton of other cute pieces to the widget.
It snowed so much today so I got a ton of computer work done as we didn´t set foot outside. See you tomorrow with another style post.
and welcome to my fourth Netflix show guide. I can not believe we have watched this many shows already and to be honest, the pandemic and now the second lockdown didn´t help to slow us down. I have some awesome shows in today´s review plus some which really surprised me. Sometimes it is a good choice to push through some episodes until it gets better but often times it will remain rubbish.
Although Netflix is still our number one source for shows and movies we found a lot we liked on Disney + so I am going to share these very soon too.
Top 9 shows to watch in the gloomy and cold winter time / lockdown time
Virgin River // Loved this one from the beginning to the end. It is about a nurse/midwife who moves to a small town in the middle of nowhere for a fresh start after loosing her husband and baby girl. Just finished season two and the first one was definitely better but I am eager for season 3. The only one who is really bothering me is the major called Hope. She is super annoying and always in everyones business and messing with others life.
The Queen´s Gambit // This was a very short show with only 8 episodes but that was enough. The whole show is about chess and although it is very interesting to hear about all the matches and championships in chess I have never heard before, you could not watch more than one season on that matter. The show is about a little orphan and she is learning all about chess from the janitor of the orphanage she is living in. She get´s adopted at some point and makes her way through all the matches until she reaches the world championship in Russia.
Ms. Fisher´s Murder Mysteries // This is what I would call a sassy show. The main character is Miss Fisher and she is a lady detective and settles in Melbourne to help the police with Murder Mysteries all around town. The outfits she is wearing and her charm is everything. I like her very much and as open as she is with others she sure has her own little secrets.
The Order // The Order is about a secret magic society who has been practicing for hundreds of years at the campus of a university. But there is also a secret werewolf society. Both didn´t know each other existed so this gets really interesting as they need to work together to protect the magic.
Sweet Magnolias // A cute show about the friendship of three very different ladies who are opening a spa together. They are always there for each other whether it is personally or professionally. A very light but entertaining watch.
Get Organized with The Home Edit // If you like to organize your home, own a Dymo label maker and believe that every item in your household should have its dedicated place this show is for you. The sweet duo Clea and Joanna take on homes of celebrities and organize them from top to botton, shelf by shelf and drawer by drawer. Definitely encouraged me to get more organized. Don´t get me wrong I love being organized and have everything where it belongs but sometimes I need a little push and this show definitely helped me to get started again.
The American BBQ Showdown // Don´t watch this show hungry cause you will definitely regret it. This show features the most delicious BBQ meats and sides I have ever seen in my life. The jury demands excellent knowledge from their contestants and they absolutely deliver. Be prepared to at least try one of the recipes after the show. So so yummy.
Selling Sunset // If you like bitch fights this is the reality show for you plus it features luxurious wardrobes and the most exquisite houses you will ever see plus a bunch of pretty blondes. There isn´t a blunt day in the office of the Oppenheim brothers in Los Angeles.
Hollywood // Definitely one of the „keep going it will get better soon“ category. The first two episodes weren´t the most catchy and I stopped but rewatched a few weeks later and it got great by episode three. It is about the old and glamorous Hollywood era and thematizes the status and value of black people and women in the movie industry. Really interesting to watch and of course such great costumes and movie sets.
Since this is my fourth recap of Netflix shows for you guys I am linking the other three posts for you below.
I still can´t believe that the new year will be here in a couple of hours although I have been prepping our dinner the whole morning.
We did not plan to do anything today (the original plan was to get tons of Chinese take-away) but my mom wanted to do a Winter BBQ so we thought why not and planned out our NYE dinner.
NYE Table Scape
My table scapes are usually planned in advance so this one today has also been a last minute table setting with all the things I still had from last year or years prior. To be honest I do not switch much for NYE. I love a gold and black (sometimes I add silver) setting as it always looks glamorous and that is the theme I am going for on the last day of the year.
The plates I used are perfect for any kind of entertaining. I have those in several colors and these are my favorites for hosting. They elevate a table setting immediately with their metallic shimmer.
Candle holders are a must at every table scape. I have been using the gold ones for every ocassion every since I got them. Were a huge hit at Emilia´s baptism table and our Christmas table too.
Napkins are a great piece to set the motto for the table. I love using cotton napkins but occasionally use paper napkins too if they are as pretty as these.
Glamorous Living Room Backdrop
How amazing is this golden NYE backdrop I set up in our living room. I have been admiring these for years at other people´s NYE parties and never got one for myself but this was the year to go all out as we had sacrifice so much. I ordered this from Pink Party Dots as well and it was here two days after. The set up was so easy and quick, I did it all by myself.
Quick and Easy Side Dishes
Since we planned on having a BBQ. My husband will handle the grill I decided to go all out with the side dishes.
Another side I planned are Caprese Sticks. I basically put mozarella balls, little tomatoes and a basil leaf on a small wooden stick and am going to drizzle some balsmamic creme on top before serving.
The bread salad an oldie but goodie from our holiday parties a few years ago. It is basically a lot of vegetables (I always use what we have), some arugula, bacon, pine nuts, parmesan cheese and bread crumbs on top. You can use any dressing you like. I always make a mustard dressing.
Stir fryed green beans are another favorite. I am using two cans of green breans and put them together with a cup of bread crums into a pan. When the bread crumbs are golden the beans are ready.
The last two side dishes I have planned are spinach dip (an awesome side dish to take to parties too, great to make in advance) and deviled eggs (got the recipe from Reese Witherspoon´s book Whiskey in a Teacup).
Wow this has been a much longer post than I anticipated. Just wanted to quickly share some last minute ideas with you guys.
I hope you are spending NYE safe. We are only allowed to be five people and everyone has to return to their homes by 9 p.m. so this will be a short dinner.
Christmas Eve is only two days aways, TWO !!!! Wow time flies fast. We have been watching a Christmas movie almost everyday for the last ten days or so and we have come pretty far with all the movies we wanted to watch. There are some we still want to see but to be honest I don´t mind watching them after Christmas.
X-Mas Movies we have watched so far
Christmas with the Kranks @netflix
Love this one so much because of Tim Allen. We are watching this one at least two times. The funniest thing how they try to avoid Christmas and go on a cruise cause their daughter left for the peace corps and they have to throw a last-minute Christmas Eve party.
National Lampoon´s Christmas Vacation @primevideo
This is by far my absolute favorite Christmas movie. Maybe because I can relate to so many aspects of the film. Family father Clark Griswold is planning the perfect Christmas with the highest expectations and get´s a ton of rocks thrown into his way.
Santa Clause 1 @disney+
Definitely like this one more than the second part. Tim Allen is the best in Christmas movies. This one is one of a kind. He scares Santa Claus which fall from the roof so he becomes the new Santa Claus. By his side all the time is his adorable son.
Santa Clause 2 @disney+
Santa Claus needs to find a wife before Christmas so he can stay at the North Pole. Definitely not an easy task if you only have 13 days but he made it and also delivered all the presents on time.
The Nutcracker and the four realms @disney+
Definitely a must see. The most beautiful costumes and backdrops I have seen in a long time. Great actors and so much to discover.
Dirty Office Party @netflix
This might be one of the real life movies. A huge Christmas party at an office going overboard because they wanted to trick their CEO. Starrs Jennifer Aniston. It is not as cheerful as all the holiday movies but was a nice change.
love actually @netflix
A real oldie (Keira Knightley looks like a baby) but always nice to watch. I personally like these types of cross movies where there are many different couples´ stories.
Christmas Under Wraps @netflix
The first Christmas movie I have watched this year and in true „Hallmark“ spirit it is definitely a forseeable romcom but the Christmas decor and spirit everywhere is great.
A Christmal Carol @disney+
This is the nicer version of Scrooged plus it is animated and much cuter to watch. A classic Christmas movie starring the present, the future and the past ghost of Christmas.
Christmas Made to Order @netflix
This was by far the worst movie I have watched in quite some time. All the decor was so cheesy and over the top and the acting was horrible. I didn´t even finish it.
The Grinch @netflix
A classic Christmas movie for the whole family. So cute to watch. This one never gets old.
My Christmas Inn @netflix
The story of a succesful marketing lady inheriting an inn in a cute little city. She warms up to the city and its residents and decides to leave her old life behind and works at the inn. Cute story but a little flat.
Holidate @netflix
A wild Christmas movie from the perspective of a single who has to come home alone for Christmas so the rest of the family can bother her to get a boyfriend. She makes a pact with a guy she met to „fake“ spend all the holidays toghether until the ultimately fall in love. Starts and ends with Christmas but covers every holiday throughout the year.
The Christmas Chronicles @netflix
The Christmas Chronicles 2 @netflix
Jingle Jangle @netflix
Family Stone @primevideo
Christmas Wonderland @netflix
X-Mas movies we still want to watch
Home Alone Part 1 and 2
Miracle on 34th street
Santa Clause 3
Elf
The two biggest surprises in terms of story and picturesque moments are definitely The Nutcracker and Jingle Jangle.
